Brent DeGrey Baddley

Brent DeGrey Baddley, beloved husband, son, brother, father, and grandfather passed away on December 22, 2014. Brent was born in Summit, New Jersey on April 30, 1930 to Melba Grace Perry and Wallace DeGrey Baddley. He married Jacqueline Moon Morris on August 20, 1954 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they raised four children, Judy Ann Whitby (Dean), Douglas DeGrey Baddley (Tracie), James Morris Baddley (Lissa), and Becky Olsen (Robert). He has 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Brent was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served an LDS mission to Calgary, Canada. After returning from his mission, Brent graduated from Weber State College with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and received a Master’s degree from the University of Utah in Social Work, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. Upon graduation he worked as the supervisor of the Northern Utah District Office of Vocational Rehabilitation for the State of Utah. Brent also worked as an assistant professor at Weber State College and was instrumental in developing the school’s Social Work program. In 1966 he opened, The Family Counseling Service, and served as the Executive Director for many years. After graduation from high school, he began working for the Southern Pacific Railroad and worked for the SP concurrently throughout his entire professional career. Brent was a model of hard work and determination to his posterity.
Brent was a skilled instructor and found great joy teaching, especially teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was generous with his time, serving throughout his life in multiple church calls, as well as volunteering for many community and professional positions, always serving with love and compassion.
Brent “Grandpa” was a wonderful storyteller, creating tales of adventure and fanciful journeys for his children and grandchildren. He was quick to laugh, eager to help, always smiling, always caring. Brent was a source of strength and comfort to those who knew him. He exemplified the unconditional love of his Savior Jesus Christ in all his actions and words. He will be greatly missed.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
