Our dearest husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away the morning of July 14, 2024, at his home at the age of 85. Brent was born on April 4, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Glen Wright and Wilma Stillwell Innes. Brent was a graduate of Ogden High School and ROTC in 1957. He served in the United States Army 1958 to 1964.
Brent married his forever love, Sandra Jean Schofield, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 7, 1961. Together they celebrated 62 years. Brent graduated from Weber State University in 1964 with a B.S. in Sociology. He received his MSW from the University of Utah in 1966 and later taught classes at Weber State University.
Brent’s career was dedicated to serving people. He served as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at the Ogden Detention Home, State Industrial School, and Children’s Aid Society. He then became the Director of the HAFB Family Advocacy Center in which he spent 37 years until his retirement. Brent was quickly recruited to share his therapy skills with the Family Counseling Service of Northern Utah. Brent also served on the Weber County Library Board, The Ogden-Weber Action Community Partnership, and eight years on the Uintah Highlands Improvement District Water Board. Brent was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a Highlands Ward Missionary and High Priest and served in the Ogden Temple.
Brent’s legacy is one of making friends and helping others, whether it be in a therapy session or someone he just met while out and about. The life he lived, the values he held dear, and the memories shared capture his spirit and the pivotal role he played in our lives.
Brent had many hobbies and passions that brought joy to his life. He had a great love of gardening and became a Master Gardener from Utah State University. He especially loved traveling the world with Sandra and their close friends, four-wheeling, trips to Yellowstone, Bear Lake and Lava Hot Springs, fishing, and taking his grandkids on adventures.
Brent was creative and inventive. He built owl houses, endless science fair contraptions, and could fix anything with duct tape. He loved to cook for his family and friends and is known as the grill master and culinary trailblazer with his “pig outs”.
On September 19, 2022, he survived a horrific automobile accident. He was grateful to all of his family and friends for their continued love and support. He always said that you need three things in life: Faith, Family and Friends.
Brent leaves behind his wife, Sandra; daughters, Julie (Rick) Southwick, Cindy (Grant) Brough; grandchildren, Taylor, Jacob, Teeg, Kaitlyn, Maile and Allyson; and seven great-grandchildren, Chandler, Bennett, Maverick, Claire, Callie, Riley and James; siblings, Margene (Larry) Jackson, Steven (Leann) Innes, Linda (Russell) Thomas, Robert (Elaine) Sperry; and sister-in-law, Judy Spinden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen Wright and Wilma Innes and his dear in-laws, Adam (Sandy) and Fern Schofield.
Graveside services will be held on Monday July 22, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family to celebrate Brent’s life on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Rebecca Moore, Laura Smith, Marcos Uboldi, and the Tobin family for their caring, love and support of Brent.
