Brent Mackay Kennington

Brent Mackay Kennington quietly passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family Sunday October 20th, 2024. Brent had fought a long and courageous 24-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis and Neuropathy. Even through those trials he never lost his quick wit and sense of humor. Everyone who met him just loved how hilarious he was and how he could brighten up a room. 

 Brent Mackay Kennington was born on August 28th, 1957 in Afton Wyoming and later moved with his family to Layton Utah. Brent attended Layton High School where he excelled in sports until a football injury derailed his athletic career. Brent continued to love sports and anything outdoors. Growing up his kids would always spend time watching the Denver Broncos, Atlanta Braves and Utah Jazz while winding down at night with their dad. Brent participated in all kind of sports with his kids for 20+ years. RARELY missing any of their games. He also loved playing in his work hosted softball tournaments in which his kids loved attending and watching him play. He was a giant in his kids eyes while playing on the softball field. 

 Brent was a father, brother, son, uncle and grandpa who was larger than life in the eyes of his family. He was a man's man, from yard work to sports to fixing anything that was broken. He was a listener to those who had things to say, and a devout loving family man. His family, siblings, kids and grandkids meant the world to him. There was nothing he wouldn't do for them. 

 From coaching his kids sports, throwing the ball in the yard to setting up extravagant pool party's in the summer. He always had countless projects he often did all by himself on his home, yard and things for the family. From planning family vacations, Drive-In Movie nights, bowling leagues to the “often looked forward to” Friday Pizza nights. These are all great memories his remaining family will cherish forever. Most of his favorite times were spent with family up at the family property in Star Valley Wyoming. And although his dream to retire and live there never came to fruition due to declining health, he spoke often about how much he loved it there and why. 

 Brent did everything he could as a father and husband to provide for his family and would always help anyone he knew with the drop of his hat. In 1980 Brent married the love of his life in Barbara E Dutton. They would go on to have two kids together, 3 in total and raise a loving family of 5 until Barbara preceded him in death in 2011 after a tough battle with Cancer. Brent worked and then retired from ATK Aerospace after more than 30 years. He often talked about the fun times he had traveling to Israel and Mississippi for projects with some of his favorite coworkers. 

 Brent is survived by his two kids, an adopted son and three grandkids, son, Bryce Kennington, daughter, Danielle (Anthony) Kennington Alderin, adopted son, Yisrael Yaakov (Aka: Terry Kennington), grandkids Brynley, Bryton and Kendall Kennington. He is also survived by his sister, Lois (Gil) Vaillancourt, brother, Bart (Karen) Kennington, and many nieces and nephews, too many to list. 

 He was preceded in death by his parents A.R. “Goldie” and Ruth Kennington, his two older sisters Julie and Lynn Kennington. And many aunts, uncles and cousins. 

As we remember Brent, we are reminded of the countless lives he touched with his kindness, wisdom, and generosity. Brent’s legacy will live on through the memories we all have of him and will cherish forever. His smile, his advice, his loving embracement of his kids and grandkids will be deeply missed forever by them. Especially by his two favorite little princesses, Danielle "Daddy's little girl" and Brynley "Punkin", his granddaughter. He loved both of them so very much. They were his little angels and both had connections to their "Papa" like no one else did. 

 A Memorial Service with visitation will be held on October 30, 2024 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah, to celebrate Brent's life and legacy and allow any friends and family to say their goodbyes. 

 Rest in peace, “Papa”. Your memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew and loved you.
