Brett Bennett

June 29, 1979 ~ August 6, 2021

We are heartbroken to share the passing of the best father, husband, brother, son and grandson, Brett D. Bennett, age 42. With his little girl on his lap, holding his wife’s hand, and surrounded by family, he slipped peacefully away on the morning of August 6, 2021, after a nine-month battle with colon cancer. The day before he died, he said “I have three reasons to keep fighting, and I have a lot of fight left in me”. We know he had more fight in him and would have given anything for more time with his two little girls, Navy and Haven, and his wife, Tiffany, but sometimes cancer doesn’t play fair. We will always admire his optimism and strength.

Brett was born to Pat and Loyd Bennett on June 29, 1979. It wasn’t long before he started following his Dad into the garage to help him fix things. From the beginning, Brett loved all things outdoors. Growing up, time was spent camping, fishing, and boating, where he shined in the role of oldest brother to Brian and Blake. From the age of three he was a faithful Dallas Cowboys fan. His friends gave him the nickname “Stat Man” because he could recite any team or player’s statistics whenever needed. He loved his two signed Cowboys footballs even more than he loved Mountain Dew and sour gummies. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1997. He loved his graduation gift from his mom and dad: his very own SPX Seadoo. It was his baby. He graduated with a Business degree from Weber State University and completed a Master’s in Business Administration from Western Governors.

The best decision he ever made was to marry his best friend, Tiffany Haynes Bennett, on September 10, 2010. Over nearly 11 years of marriage, they shared a life of love, adventure and memories. Always industrious, Brett loved his work at DCMA where he worked on Hill Air Force Base Department of Defense contracting. He said he worked with friends, not co-workers. The outpouring of support over the past year from his co-workers shows it was a two-way street.

Lake Powell was his happy place and he loved being there with his family. He was a great water skier and helped his nieces, nephews and daughters learn to first swim and then water ski. He loved his boat because he knew it would make memories with his family. There is no better image than seeing him with the red rock background and blue, green water of Lake Powell, sitting in the driver’s seat of his boat with his little girl, Navy, on his lap. Friends would often tease Brett about his hairy chest and back, saying when he was on the water he always had his shirt off and his sweater on.

Countless kind things can be said of Brett. He had a big smile that made everyone happy. It was like a yawn; you couldn’t help but smile when he smiled. He exuded goodness, was fiercely loyal and would do anything for anyone. He was kind to all he met and always had something nice to say, but the most common observation of Brett was what an amazing father he was.

Although he loved to socialize, most of the time you’d find him glued to the side of Navy. They were inseparable. If it was her choice they’d play tea party, and if he got to choose, they were going for a ride in the side by side. He may have been up for either equally. His love for his children spilled out of him. Haven was born just three months before he was diagnosed and turned one just before he passed. His biggest regret was not being able to spend more time with her and see her grow.

Brett, with his infectious smile and great laugh, leaves behind his wife, Tiffany; daughters, Navy and Haven; parents, Pat and Loyd; brothers, Brian (Brooke), and Blake (Ashley); nieces and nephew, Kanyon, Jerzi and Bridger; in-laws, Fred and Denise Haynes; brother-in-law, Jason Haynes and niece, McKaitli. He will also be dearly missed by his Grandma Martinez, Grams, and the rest of his extended family who love him very much, especially his cousins who were more like siblings. We take comfort knowing he was welcomed into heaven by his grandparents, Tony Martinez, Carole Bennett and Jean Bennett.

We invite all who loved Brett to join us at a Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Barlow Residence, 529 West Gentile, Layton, UT. Parking will be available in the east field accessed from Flint Street. Arrangements entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask you to honor Brett by spending a day with someone you love. Quality time was what Brett valued most. Additionally, we want to express the gratitude we have for the community who overwhelmed Brett’s family with love and support over the past year. We thank you for loving us, and even more, for loving Brett. College Savings Accounts have been set up for Brett’s daughters to save for their future education. To donate, go to gift.my529.org, gift code is DR690T.
