Brian Tiffen Carter, 77, of Pocatello, passed away in his sleep on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, in Salt Lake City, while serving as an LDS Missionary.
Brian was born in Murray, Utah, on December 18, 1933, to Herbert and Violet Carter, just minutes before his twin sister, Betty. They joined an older sister, Norene, to complete the family.
Brian was raised and educated in Ogden where he developed a love for flying, and earned his pilot''s license at the age of 17. He never lost his love of flying.
Brian married Linda Chipman on January 19, 1961 and three daughters were born to them.
Brian worked for the U.S. Forest Service and was employed as an aerial photographer for several years. He then became an Administrative Officer and Personnel Officer before his retirement.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in Western Canada. Following retirement, Brian and Linda served as a missionary couple, first in the Translation Department in Salt Lake City, and then as an office couple in the Micronesia-Guam Mission. At the time of his death, Brian and his wife Linda were serving their third mission, this time in Salt Lake City at the Family History Library.
Brian is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda, and their three daughters, Lanette (Bryan) Cooper, Janiel Carter, and Tina (Trent) Cole, and 12 grandchildren, Nicholas, Derek, Justin, Jenna, Trent, Kristi, Brandon, Shaylee, Makenna, Alexa, Zander and Zakiah.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Pocatello Highland 11th Ward Chapel, 2000 South Fairway.
Family will meet with friends at the Ward Chapel on Tuesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
A graveside service will also be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the LDS Church General Missionary Fund.
