Brian Kay Smith, 61, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023. He was born on September 13, 1962, in Ogden, Utah, to Clyde T and Ruby Bodrero Smith. He grew up in North Ogden, Utah, graduating from Weber High School as Valedictorian and graduated from Weber State College, where he received the Crystal Crest Wildcat Achievement Award. He went on to earn his Masters degree, in Psychology at University of Utah.
Brian was diagnosed at age 6, with juvenile on-set diabetes, which caused many medical and physical challenges his whole life, including total loss of vision as a teenager. He faced his challenges with faith and strength and accepted them and lived his best life possible.
He married Lorri Spencer in 1990 and they adopted a baby boy, Jeffrey. They later divorced. He married NaDeen Hunt on January 6, 2010 in South Jordan. NaDeen passed away on December 29, 2012.
Brian loved music from his early childhood. He had a beautiful singing voice and performed with his sister, at many events. He sang with many choirs and performed solos. He could hear a song once and could figure them out on the piano. He often would hum a tune so others could play “name that tune”.
Brian advanced through all the scouting programs and earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in the Salt Lake City area, another for the LDS Business College and served in the Jordan River Temple for many years. He loved to teach, and his favorite calling was ward music director and loved it! Brian had a strong testimony and knowledge of our Savior.
He was blessed with a photographic memory, which helped him throughout his life.
He is known for his ability to remember birthdays and anniversaries of family, friends and neighbors. He would call them every year. He was always perceptive to people’s feelings and needs and left them feeling better. Brian was a blessing to many. He found joy in counseling people as he was a great listener and wanted to help those who were struggling in their lives.
Brian is survived by his brother, Kevin B. Smith; sister, Debbi (Glenn) Kartchner; son, Jeffrey T. Smith; mother-in-law, Marian Anderson; sisters-in-law, Karen Smith Ratta, LaDawn (Brent) Hansen, Vonya (Cory) Thompson, and Teralee (Eddie) Miller; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother, Gregory Clyde Smith; sister-in-law, Marie M. Smith; nephew, Trevor Jacob Smith; niece, Lenae Smith; and brother-in-law, Vance Hunt.
His family would like to thank all of those who helped him during his lifetime many served him with love and support, for which we are forever grateful. We especially want to thank the staff of Maple Springs Care Center for their care, kindness and compassion during the last months of Brian’s life.
