Broderick Conroy West

Broderick Conroy West, 52, of Clinton, passed from this earthly life of misery, woes, and pain to eternal home, on Sunday, February 10, 2008 surrounded by his faithful and devoted wife, Elizabeth, and staff members of the Access Home Care and Hospice.

"West" as he was affectionately known, was born September 20, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois to James and Mattie West. There were five children born to this union.

Upon graduation form high school, he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. He loved to travel, both in the United States and abroad.

He and his wife transferred from the Kwajalein Army Base, Marshall Isalnds to Hill Air Force Base in 2000, where she worked until retiring in 2006. Failing health prevented his employment during this time.

West loved to listen to and collect all types of music, fishing and gardening and was also an avid history buff.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

West is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, Clinton, UT; his mother, Mattie West, one brother, James West, three sisters, B. Jean West, Linda (Lawrence) West, and Phyllis (Carl) Bell, all of Chicago, IL; two sons and two daughters, Bernard Bennett and Al Bennett, both of Louisville, GA; Torchessa Johnson, Augusta, GA; and Chivonne West, Atlanta, GA; three stepsons, David (Melody) Battle, Jason Battle, and Michael (Rayna) Battle, all of Huntsville, AL; four grandchildren; an uncle, Leroy Atkins, and two special aunts, Eloise (Roger) Bennett and Eloise Woods, who were instrumental in his upbringing. Three close cousins, Bruce Mack, Pamela Mack and Vicki Bennett, and a host of other aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 18th at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.

The family will meet friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m., at the mortuary.

The family would like to give special thanks for the wonderful care provided by Access Home Care and Hospice, and also to Dr. Glen Biddulph.
