Brogan Eugene Koegel, 16, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, April 18, 2018.
Brogan was born April 22, 2001 to Michael and Mindi Koegel in Layton, Utah. He spent his first three months fighting for life at Davis Hospital and then at Primary Children’s Hospital. He came home and beat all the medical expert predictions. Brogan thrived and lived life to its fullest.
Brogan has been attending Utah schools for the Deaf and Blind in Ogden since age three. He loved school and had many friends, classmates and the staff. He loved the Halloween Carnival every year.
Brogans favorite things to do were any activity with water. He spent many summers at Bear Lake. He enjoyed swimming, boating, and camping. He loved getting up early to help his dad tend to the fire and cook breakfast. We cherished his smiles and his soul encompassing hugs. Brogan has endured more trials than most of us will in a lifetime. We were always in awe of his continual fight for life.
Brogan is survived by his parents, his adoring sister, Kendall, and devoted brother Bric. Grandparents Robert and Tracey Scadden of Roy; Lynne Nienstadt of Maricopa,AZ; and Donald Alander of Hydaburg, AK. Great grandparents, Gayle Scadden , Washington Terrace; and Eugene and Carol Horne, Hooper; as well as his many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his great grandpa, Robert D Scadden, and his great grandma Dorothy Nienstadt.
There are so many people that played a part in Brogans life that we can never adequately thank. His first pediatrician, Dr. Frank Kramer who compassionately helped us navigate our way through the first ten plus years of this complex journey. The nurses from Ivy Lane Pediatrics; who came into our home and hearts each night, please know how much we appreciated the loving care you provided Brogan. A special thank you to Wendy and DeDee from the TC Waiver program; to IHC homecare and hospice, and Russell. The uncertainty of this last earthly journey for Brogan was terrifying; you all helped us realize that death isn’t final. Brogan lives on in the way he’s touched others hearts and souls.
