Brooks W. "Whit" Whittier
RIVERDALE a" Brooks W. "Whit" Whittier, died Sunday, January 16, 2011, at Ogden Regional Medical Center of complications from a recent fall. He was 89 years old, 89 years wise and 89 years loved.
Whit was born December 27, 1921 in Milton, Utah, a son of Herbert J. and Margaret R. Rich Whittier. Whit was reared and educated in Morgan, moving to Ogden in 1942.
He married the love of his life, Leone "Toni" Meacham September 29, 1950 in Ogden, Utah. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed by all who enjoyed his witty sense of humor and sweet and calm influence.
Dad worked at Hill Air Force Base for 34 years receiving many awards for his outstanding service. He transferred to the 17th AF at Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany from 1970-72, working as a flight operations specialist. He retired from Hill AFB in 1974 following many years of service as Deputy Chief of Flight Operations.
Dad was a pilot with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was so very proud of his service to his country. His eyes would weep when hearing the National Anthem, and we always joked that his kidneys were located too close to his eyes.
Dad enjoyed fishing, hunting, skiing, golfing and traveling, and was accomplished in the art of lapidary work and faceting gemstones. He looked forward to meeting his neighborhood buddies each morning for coffee. He was a member of the Board of Directors and Vice President of U.S. Title of Utah for several years. He was a member of the F.O.E. #2472 since 1946 and a long time member of the B.P.O.E. #719.
Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Toni, his children, Ed (Georgia) Haynes, Bruce (Marsha) Haynes, Kevin Whittier, Donna (Tim) Thompson and Karen Whittier. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
His son Neil Whittier, his two brothers, and a sister preceded him in death.
