Our beloved husband, father, son, brother, grandpa, teacher, and friend Bruce Randal Hassard graduated mortality January 12, 2025, at the age of 56, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully in his home in Syracuse, Utah, surrounded by his wife and children. Bruce was born in Provo, Utah on November 4, 1968, to Rex and Barbara Hassard.
Bruce served in the Virginia Roanoke mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints July 1988 through June 1990. On June 4, 1992, Bruce married Vicki Naisbitt in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised 6 amazing children. Bruce enjoyed teaching children for 30 years as an educator, mostly second and third grade students. He loved watching his students have the light of understanding turn on, as they laughed and enjoyed class. Many of his previous students have reported that he was a favorite teacher. Bruce had a way of making education fun, and helped instill a love of lifelong learning. He drew poster sized pictures of animals for his students each Christmas and at the end of each year. Many of his former students still treasure these gifts.
Bruce loves his Savior and studied the scriptures every day, both individually and with his family; he knew them well and he had a gift for weaving them together as one, sharing the principles that perfectly fit each situation. Bruce is an incredible husband, and a fabulous father. He led by example with kindness and love; we never once heard him yell at anyone. Bruce loved spending time with his family, and he loved nature. He often took his wife and children on long bike rides, camping, backpacking, & hiking, pointing out and teaching the names of different plants and flowers as we passed.
Bruce is survived by his wife Vicki Naisbitt Hassard; his children Krystal & Nick Porter, Jaden & Brianna, Brian & Megan, Brent & Jocy, Kyle & Rebecca, and Jeweli Hassard; his 9 grandchildren, Anthony, Paisley, Claire, Ruger, Makayla, Richard, Emeth, Kamryn, & Katie; his parents Rex Hassard & Barbara Knight Hassard, his brother Mike (& Julie) Hassard; & his sisters Evelyn (& Ken) Gerber, Valerie (& Larry) Hall, and Miriam (& Dave) Carter.
Bruce loved reading and read to and with our children every day! In lieu of flowers, Bruce has requested that you buy a book for a child and read it together.
