Bruce W. Swenson

Bruce William Swenson, 70, passed away on June 12, 2015 at his Pleasant View home after a long struggle with cancer. His wife was by his side. Born September 16, 1944 in Ogden to Howard Barker and Ruth Nettie Trimble Swenson, he was raised and schooled here, graduating from Ben Lomond High School Class of 1962 before earning his Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering from BYU. Bruce married Linda Childs in 1962 and they had four children together. They later divorced.
He enjoyed a long career with UDOT, starting at age 19 as a surveyor, then working as a materials specialist, design engineer, and ultimately a project manager before retiring in 2000 after 41 ½ years.
Bruce was a founding member of the New American Philharmonic, Opera, and Ballet Association, where he served as the personnel manager and was principle clarinet. He married fellow musician Sharon Marie (Plorin) Zeleznick on May 26, 1998 and they made beautiful music together.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Sharon Swenson; children, Scott (Paige) Swenson, Kelly Swenson, and Jenney Swenson- (Dustin) Gramly; brothers, Douglas (Maysie) Swenson and Bryan Swenson; sister, Catherine (Dean) Palmer; and grandchildren, Brandon, Tucker, Courtney, Brittany, Cooper, Zeddacus, Tina, August William, and Autumn. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and by his eldest son, Adam Swenson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2015 at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may meet with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the New American Philharmonic, Opera, and Ballet Association, care of Kenneth Watkins, 2280 E 8240 S, South Weber, UT 84405.
