Bryce H. Obray
NORTH OGDEN – Bryce Hawkes Obray was born August 8, 1931, in Logan, Utah to Ernest S. and Kate Hawkes Obray. He passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 28, 2010, after a courageous battle with an extended illness. He was 78 years old.
Bryce grew up in Paradise, Utah. He graduated from South Cache High School. He served with the U.S. Air Force for four years.
Bryce married his eternal companion, Dorothy Schick, on November 23, 1955 in the Logan LDS Temple. They recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many callings. He especially loved working with the youth. He was always looking for an opportunity to serve his family, friends, and neighbors.
Bryce was a Deputy Sheriff for the Weber County Boat Patrol for many years. He worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Company/Qwest for 36 years a central office technician.
He could build or fix almost anything and was willing to share his talents with others. Bryce, his brother Theron, and their families worked to build their cabin at Bear Lake where priceless memories were made with family and friends. Bryce and Dorothy loved traveling, snowmobiling, and boating with their family and friends.
Surviving are his wife Dorothy, North Ogden; and three children, Debbie (Tom) Hardy, North Ogden; Carolyn (Scott) PoVey, Plain City; and the late Jason Bryce Obray. They were blessed with nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are one brother, Theron H. Obray, and three sisters, Joyce Wood, Paula (Con) Bell, and Carole (Owen) Jones.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jason, his parents, brother, Ernest H. Obray and sister, Kathryn O. Napper.
The family would like to thank Dr. Agarwal, Dr. Senekjian, and the nurses and staffs at McKay-Dee Hospital, Alpine Rehab Center, and Washington Terrace Rehab Center for their loving care of Bryce. A very special thanks to our Mom for her love and unwavering devotion to our Dad – she was always by his side.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the North Ogden 20th Ward Chapel, 575 East 3100 North.
Friends may call at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd. on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday at the Ward Chapel from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
