Bud Al Speth
FARR WEST - On January 28, 2013, after a long fought battle with cancer, Bud Al Speth passed away peacefully at home. Born on June 28, 1949 in Logan, Utah to Rudolph and Alice Kendrick Speth, he was the youngest of seven children. Dear to his heart were those happy memories of his childhood years growing up on the family farm where fishing, hunting and playing sports were a few of his favorite activities. It was during those early years that he learned the value of hard work, an attribute for which he was known throughout his life. In his youth he attended school in Logan, Bonneville High as a teenager and later Weber State University.
At the age of 19 he was drafted into the US Army where he honorably served in the Vietnam War. He had a deep abiding love for his country and the many freedoms it represents.
Bud married his best friend, Marie Olson on October 7, 1983 in Ogden, Utah. This marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He retired in the summer of 2004 from HAFB as a heavy equipment mechanic after 35 years of service.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served faithfully in many positions, including First Counselor in the Bishopric. He loved to help and serve others and because of his selflessness, many people have been blessed. His faith and testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel will live forever with those who knew and loved him best.
Bud had a unique talent for working with his hands, and could fix nearly anything. He had a green thumb when it came to growing things, including friendships. He loved to travel and had fond memories of vacations shared with family and friends. He was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors, especially the mountains where he enjoyed fishing, four-wheeling, camping and spending long evenings sitting around a campfire. More than anything, he loved being with his family.
Regardless of the many challenges he faced, he remained positive and upbeat about life and was a great source of strength to all who knew him. We will treasure in our hearts the love he shared with us and look forward with anticipation to that time when we will be with him again.
A heartfelt thanks to those caregivers who over the years have touched his life with love and positive support. There are too many to mention here, but you know who you are and you know that he appreciated you immensely.
Bud is survived by his wife, Marie; children, Kim (Mike) Elwell, Sharla (Steve) Payne, Robyn (Kent) Jacobsen, Natalie (Dave) Kovach, Tiffany (Justin) Bingham, Jesse (Nicole) Speth, Misti (Kyle) Nebeker; eighteen grandchildren; brothers, Lynn (Diane) Speth and Devon (Bertha) Speth; sister, Dixie (Howard) Trewet; brother, and sister-in-laws Hall and Lanae Olson, Ron and Karmen Olson, Wayne and DeAnn Jackson and Ralph Credille and many extended family members, all who loved him dearly.
