C. Douglas Spencer February 26, 1932 a€" September 24, 2007

PALM DESERT, Calif. a€" Palm Desert resident C. Douglas Spencer, 75, died Monday, September 24, 2007 at his daughter''s home in Park City, Utah.

He was born February 26, 1932 in Ogden at the old Dee Hospital, a son of WWI veteran Charles Thomas and Mary Louise Esmeyer Spencer. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1950 where he was a member of the ROTC and a high school high hurdle champion. He attended the University of Utah from 1950 to 1954 where he graduated with a degree in biology. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

Douglas married Geraldine Austad on August 3, 1955.

He graduated from the University of Utah Medical School Class of 1957. He received a medal from the U of U in September for 50 years of service. He completed his internship at George Washington University Hospital (Washington DC) and his residency at Letterman General Hospital (San Francisco, CA).

Douglas served with the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1964 obtaining the rank of Major.

He began his private medical practice in Fullerton, California as a licensed Psychoanalyst and Psychiatrist from 1964 to 2000. He was the First Board Certified Psychiatrist in Orange County, California during the 1970''s and maintained the largest private psychiatric practice in Orange County. He also built two hospitals in Orange County.

His strong entrepreneurial instincts led to varied business holdings. He maintained several homes in Lake Arrowhead, Orange County and Park City, Utah. He traveled to all continents of the globe. He retired to Palm Desert, California in 2000 where he lived until his death. He enjoyed a game of golf, had a very strong sense of humor, was smart, adventurous, understanding of the complexity of life and human nature, kind, and extremely charitable.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Geri Austad Spencer, Palm Desert, CA; sons, Douglas C. (Margaret) Spencer, Santa Monica, CA; Mark (Susan) Spencer, Park City, UT; daughters, Kara Spencer Garner, Coto de Caza, CA; Gera Spencer (John) Clinton, Park City, UT; and eight grandchildren.

Also surviving are his sisters, Delores (Bud) Bramwell, San Diego, CA; Sandra (Sam) De Young, Liberty, UT; and Nancy (Donald) Hanson, North Ogden, UT.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 6 at 12 Noon at the Park City Cemetery on Kern''s Blvd.
