Calvin J Heiner

April 8, 1940 — March 3, 2025

On Monday, March 3, 2025, our dear husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, Calvin J. Heiner, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loving family, after suffering several years of dementia.

Cal was born April 8, 1940, in Ogden, Utah to Heber J. Heiner Jr. and Melba Nelson Heiner. He was the second of three children. He resided in North Ogden since birth. He graduated from the old Weber High School in 1958, attended Weber State College and served as a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the California Los Angeles Mission.

Cal met his sweetheart, Sandra Harkness, at a friend’s wedding and were later married on June 13, 1962, in the Logan Utah Temple. From this union, they had four children, Teresa, Melanie, Shawn, and April.

He was a husband and father first and dedicated his life to serving others and was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served many callings, including Bishop, the first Stake President of the North Ogden Utah Ben Lomond Stake and Stake Patriarch. Cal and Sandy also served a Church Mission in the Dublin Ireland Mission and spent their entire time serving the incredible people in the Waterford, Ireland area where he served as branch president. They have stayed close friends with many of the people there.

He was the cofounder of Heiner’s Insurance that was incorporated in 1970, where he was well respected as an insurance agent. He served as president of the Utah PIA, and the Association of Independent Insurance Agents of Ogden and was a pillar in the community.

Because of his love for the Savior, he loved traveling and visiting many church sites, especially Jerusalem.

Cal loved spending time with his family. He loved playing games with his children and grandchildren and would often create his own rules. He even created several original games that kept the family laughing. He loved gardening, landscaping, and doing cement and rock work. He even became a certified master gardener.

Cal is survived by his sweetheart of 63 years, Sandy Heiner; their four children, Teresa Heiner Gordon, Melanie (Blake) Cevering, Shawn (Julie) Heiner, and April (Monte) Zundel; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Marcia (William D.) Norris. He was preceded in death by his parents, Heber J Heiner Jr. and Melba Heiner and his sister, Renee (Heiner) Erickson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Ben Lomond 9th Ward Chapel, 575 East 3100 North, North Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.

Cal’s family would like to publicly thank the loving care he received from all of the incredible workers at the Quail Meadows Care Center, Elevation Hospice, Primary and Palliative Care of Utah and the many families and friends that visited and gave comfort at this difficult time.
