Calvin “Cal” George Wasdyke Sr., 86, of Layton, Utah passed away December 28, 2014 at Legacy Village of Layton.

Cal was born in Passaic, New Jersey to Nicholas Wasdyke and Gertrude May Bibbings on December 31, 1927.

Cal married Agnes Park on January 22, 1949, they were married for 65 years.

After graduating from Eastside High School, Paterson, NJ, Cal enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Cal served in the Navy and Naval Reserve from 1945 through 1968. He was proud to be retired U.S. Navy.

Cal enjoyed sports and cars. In his youth, he worked for the Westwood Ford Dealer, Westwood, New Jersey in the parts department. Cal started an auto parts business that supplied auto parts to retail businesses throughout New Jersey. Cal enjoyed auto racing. He raced midget cars for Hough Motors in the late 1950’s. He frequently attended races at tracks throughout the eastern United States. Cal became a member of the International Association of Indianapolis 500 Oldtimers, Inc. on June 9, 1998 and served as part of the Technical-Committee. Cal was an active member of the Elks Club and served as P.E.R. and P.V.P. After Cal retired he and Agnes bought a motor home and traveled the country, attending races, seeing the sights and visiting family.

Cal is survived by his wife, Agnes; and three children, Janice Wigington of Trenton, FL, Grace (Shane) Belliston of Layton, UT, Calvin Jr. (Lisa) Wasdyke of Moorestown, NJ; and four grandchildren, Michelle, Elizabeth, Calvin III and Stephen.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 5, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah. Friends may visit family from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at Utah Veterans Memorial Park.

Interment, Utah Veterans Memorial Park.
