March 10, 1932 - March 4, 2015

Formerly from Roy - Camille Louise Gillis Tarvin, age 82 one week shy of her 83rd birthday, passed away on March 4, 2015 from dementia in Charleston, SC surrounded by family.  She was born on March 10, 1932 to Murdock and Anna Maria Gillis in Hull, Massachusetts.

Camille grew up in Hull, MA and West Palm Beach, FL where she met Oramel “Bud” T. Tarvin.  They were married in Olympia, WA where they were stationed. They then lived in Hawaii for four years and settled in Roy where she lived for almost 30 years.  Bud preceded her in death on July 29, 1986.  She then spent 20 wonderful years with Donald Curtis, Monticello, FL, living in Charleston, SC, Orleans, VT and Greer, SC.

Mom worked many jobs and retired from DDO in 1974.  She performed many volunteer activities including the PTA, caring for the elderly and along with Bud, were founding members of Roy Association of Senior Adults (RASA).  She loved doing ceramics and help start the ceramic department for RASA.  Camille worked as a hostess on many bus trips to Wendover with the seniors.  Mom was also a mother to many of her children's friends, often taking them in.

Camille is survived by her children, Taylor (Cindy) Tarvin of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Tara (Norella) Tarvin of La Plata, MD; sister, Catherine (Tommy), seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Oramel; brother, Murdock; daughter and son-in-law, Robert and Jacque; and nephew, Michael.

Camille's ashes will be escorted by her family on her grandson's boat where her ashes will be placed in the Atlantic Ocean where she spent her childhood and later life.

Camille will always be remembered for her laughter, kindness and free spirit.  She was the life of the party all the way to the assisted living home.

The family would like to that the staff at Summit Place in Charleston for the extraordinary care they gave to Camille over the past three years.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Alzheimer's Foundation of America in her memory.
