Caril Lea Staten
LAYTON – Caril Lea Johnson Staten, 74, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on May 7, 1935 in Tacoma Park, Maryland, the second daughter of Harry and Gladys Johnson. She grew up in Ogden, and graduated from Ogden High School.
On February 18, 1955, she married her lifetime companion Basil E. (Gene) Staten. They settled in Layton with their four children, and resided there until her passing.
She was a member of the LDS Church, and after retiring from the IRS; she began working on her Genealogy, spending many hours at the Salt Lake Genealogy Library. She has blessed her family with many years of family history. She liked to cross-stitch as well as collect coins, a hobby she shared with her grandchildren.
Caril is survived by her loving husband Gene, three daughters, and one son, Betsy (Rod) Cheney-Brown, Cedar City, Utah; Laury (Trace) VanderSteen, Roy, Utah; Jimmy (Donna) Staten, Salt Lake City, Utah; and Tawna Tarran, North Ogden, Utah; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, two sisters Jackie Davidson and Julie Beard, her aunt Julia Carver, as well as many long time friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Kay Thomas and a granddaughter Tracee VanderSteen.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 3, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 4th Ave and N Street, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends and family may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
