Carl Nathan Barker

Carl Nathan Barker, 88, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. He was born on May 8, 1924 to William Nathan and Iva Bailey Barker in Ogden, Utah. He grew up and spent all his life in North Ogden.

To see the world and serve his country, Carl volunteered and honorably served in the US Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division in the European Theatre of Operations.

He married the love of his life, Lorna Wayment, on August 15, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were able to spend 66 wonderful years together.

Carl was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Stake Missionary, Executive Secretary within the Ward and Stake, as High Priest Teacher, High Councilman, and many other callings. He served LDS Missions with his wife in the Philippines and Anaheim, California.

He served as a North Ogden City Councilman, received Utah Young Farmer of the Year several times, and earned many awards from the IRS during his employment there. Starting as an examiner Carl worked his way up to a Human Resources Officer and Union Mediator prior to his retirement on September 3, 1989.

Carl was an avid golfer and even got a hole in one at the San Francisco Golf Course and won several IRS golf tournaments. He loved hunting, fishing, and horses. He also loved cats but denied it until his dying day. He will be remembered for his great patience. He was honest to a fault. Church service was his life, and family was his focus. He particularly enjoyed letting his children ride on his tractors.

Carl is survived by his wife, Lorna, North Ogden; sons, Steven (Holly) North Ogden; Glen (Lis), Cedar City; K. Scott (Cathy), North Ogden; Don W. (Teriko), Centerville; and Wm. Chris (Shelley), Kaysville; daughter, Janice (Postel), Layton; 21 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Kaisen Gibbs; parents, William and Iva; and siblings, Ellen, Florence and Ray.
