Carl Eugene Richardson

May 23, 1936 – March 3, 2014

Carl Eugene Richardson, 77, of Farr West, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 3, 2014 at Ogden Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on May 23, 1936 in Hagler, Idaho to Elmer E. and Maryetta Sayre Richardson. Carl was raised and schooled in Burley, Idaho and moved with his family to Albion, Idaho after he completed his schooling. It was in Albion that he met Alvena Darlene Bortz and they were married on December 23, 1956.  They remained in Albion to raise their four children for 22 years together.

Carl and Darlene owned a fireplace business together for 8 years and Carl was also a professional salesman, selling cars for 17 years and working as an auto body repair specialist. Many of his friends in Idaho called him ‘Big Red’ for his fiery hair, and perhaps also for the spicy food that he loved to cook for his friends and family.

The couple moved from Idaho to the Ogden area and in 1998.  Carl retired and began a new career raising his grandchildren. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ogden Aerie, and serving other people was one of his greatest joys in life.

Carl was not only skilled with his hands and hardworking, but also very talented. He played the guitar by ear as well as many other instruments. He enjoyed riding his Harley, remodeling houses ­ - mostly the demolition part, and most of all spending time with his family.  He is greatly admired for his many strengths, for his enduring character, and he will be deeply missed and loved always by his family.

Carl is survived by his sweetheart of 57 years, A. Darlene Richardson, Farr West; four children, Lonnie (Melanie) Richardson, Lewiston, Idaho; Larry Richardson, Burley, Idaho; Peggy (Paul) VaNoy, Ogden; and Penny (Yancy) Scott, West Haven; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and by his sisters Lila DeWeber, Blaine, Washington and Marie Thompson, Boise, Idaho.

Carl’s parents and brother, Gene Richardson preceded him in death.

The family invites friends to gather with them in a Celebration of Carl’s Life on Saturday, March 8, 2014 beginning at 11am at the Westwood Village Clubhouse, 1111 N 2000 W, Farr West, Utah.

Arrangements for cremation are entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah.
