Carl Nile Smith

WEST POINT – Carl Nile Smith, 87, left this life on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 surrounded by his loving family due to natural causes.
Carl was born April 24, 1928 in Mt. Emmons, Utah to Hyrum and Etta Smith. After graduating from Altamont High School, he met and married the love of his life, Dawna Flint of West Point, in the Salt Lake Temple in 1950. They have been together and in love for the past 65 years.
Carl was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he held numerous callings from Priest Advisor to Bishop. He loved serving others and later, he and his wife, served a mission to Trinidad in the West Indies Mission. After his retirement from the U.S. Government, he pursued his passion for custom knife making. His craftsmanship was so refined that he has had several of his knives published in national magazines and sold all over the world.
Carl is survived by his wife, Dawna, four children, Janet Raspberry, Vern (Trish Swallow), Jay (Melanie Swallow), and Travis (Bonnie Rector), 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, and two children, Karla and Ken.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the West Point 6th Ward, 800 N. 3250 W., West Point. Friends may visit family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
