SOUTH OGDEN - Carl William Stromberg, 85, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Monday, August 2, 2010, of complications from Alzheimer''s. Dad was born February 28, 1925 in Salt Lake City to Verner Lorenzo and Bertha Catmull Stromberg.

He could not express his love enough for his sweetheart, Bernice Christensen Stromberg. They were married August 29, 1945 by Elder David O. McKay in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Dad moved to Ogden at the age of 8. He loved football and played for Ogden High School and graduated in 1943. He then received training at Curtis Wright Air Force Academy. He always valued education and received an honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Weber State University. He was an avid Wildcat fan a€" He bled purple.

Dad had a strong testimony of the Savior and served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a Family History Mission in Salt Lake with his wife and was an Ogden Temple worker. Dad''s favorite calling was Bishop of the 55th ward where he loved working with the youth.

He worked as a Materel Management Branch Chief at Hill Air Force Base. He was able to retire at age 52 and then pursue other interests, including real estate, traveling, spending time at his Bear Lake cabin with family, and spending winters at their place in Indian Wells, CA.

Dad spent several years as a trustee for the Stewart Education Foundation and Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Foundation. He was a member of Rotary and loved serving the community.

He is survived by his wife, six children, Christine (Travis) Crowther, Richard (Pamela) Stromberg, Louise (Michael) Salmond, Connie (Stan) Sims, Douglas (Maren) Stromberg, and Curtis (Annette) Stromberg, 26 grandchildren, and 47 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, George (Norma) Stromberg, "Uncle" Bill Fessler and many other good friends and acquaintances.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Ruth Baird and one brother, Verner Lorenzo Stromberg, Jr. and 3 great-grandchildren.

Thank you, Dad for your example, testimony, strength, love, and great bear hugs. We will miss you.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Weber Heights Stake Center, 1401 Country Hills Drive.

Friends may visit with the family at the Stake Center on Friday, August 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, August 7 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Interment will be Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Perpetual Education Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
