In Loving Memory of Carlos Hugo Michilena
LAYTON - Carlos Hugo Michilena, 89, affectionately known as Hugo passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He will be deeply missed by all.
He was born September 2, 1927 in Salitre, Ecuador the son of Hugo A. Michilena Carrasco and Leonor E. Portillo Michilena.
Hugo married Margarita Roldan on June 3, 1954 in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
He had resided throughout his life in Salitre, Ecuador; Quito, Ecuador; Guayaquil, Ecuador; New York City, NY (lived the majority of his life in NYC) and Layton, Utah.
Hugo was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was one of the original members who initiated the very first Spanish Branch in the New York Stake.
His hobbies were always being surrounded by family, dancing the night away with his wife, traveling, visiting the Temple and cheering for the Yankees and the Mets.
He is survived by his eternal wife, Margarita Michilena, his six children: Gladys Michilena, Carlos Michilena Jr., Cecilia (Michael) Messenger, Maria (Kenneth) Martinell, Hugo (Alida) Michilena, Michael (Lourdes) Michilena, 23 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, his five siblings and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Fernando Michilena.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
The family would like to thank the Layton Spanish 3rd Ward and Forest Hills English Ward members and nurse Stephanie for all of their love and support toward him and his family.
