Carma S. Gardner

Carma Stevens Gardner passed away, Monday, May 10, 2010 after suffering several health problems in the past year. She was born to Guy P. and Delsa Pugh Stevens in Salt Lake City, October 1, 1927. Married Ivan B. Gardner in the Salt Lake Temple, September 1, 1950.

Carma felt the most important and fulfilling work she did was as a wife and mother, also as a daughter and sister. Family is a lifetime calling that she was very grateful to have.

She was active her whole life in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings including; full-time Missionary to the Washington DC South Mission (1990-91); Primary, Sunday School and Relief Society Teacher; Relief Society President and other Relief Society Service callings; Ward Librarian; Chorister; Name Extraction Worker; but most often, she served as Ward Organist and in other musical callings throughout her life, including serving as one of the Temple Organists at the Bountiful Temple (1995-2005).

Carma was industrious from an early age and worked many jobs during her life. She graduated from U.S.U. in 1950 with a Bachelor''s Degree. Majored in Vocational Home Economics with a Minor in Music, and also obtained an Elementary Teacher Certificate. She retired after a 20 year teaching career. Carma loved teaching and enjoyed working with Forest Barker and many other co-workers and friends at Lincoln Elementary in Layton. Hundreds of students will recall fond memories of class with Mrs. Gardner.

Her greatest joy was spending time with family. She was fortunate to have enjoyed many trips, visits, and vacations to and with family. She especially enjoyed the times when family could stay with her.

Mom was generous and charitable, humble, and humorous. She had a solid, unshakeable testimony of the Savior, the Gospel, and her knowledge that families are eternal and that someday we''ll be together again. We love you Mom, and will miss you.

Preceded in death her husband, Ivan Gardner, parents Guy and Delsa Stevens, grandson, David Taylor. Survived by her four children: LuWana Bennion (Ken); Theron Gardner (Dorine); Glenn Gardner (Lolly); Denise Smith (Paul); 14 grandchildren and 5 1/2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Kaysville 7th Ward, 50 W. 331 So. Friends may visit family Saturday from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. at the church. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.

Many thanks to the kind neighbors and friends (Jamestown) that have helped and watched over Mom for many years. Thank you to the staff at the Tanner Clinic and Davis Medical Hospital who were so caring and attentive to Mom''s need.
