CAROL GENE ALLEN CHAPMAN CARSON

1930-2014

Carol Gene Allen Chapman Carson was called home on November 4, 2014 four days before her 84th birthday.  She was born in Gunnison, Utah on November 8, 1930 to Luris and Dena Allen.

She met her sweetheart, James Corless Chapman, at the age of 19, when he visited her ward in Gunnison. They sealed their eternal love in marriage at the Manti Temple on June 21, 1950. After a year at BYU, they moved to Manti, where they began their family with the birth of the first of their six children.  Carol’s family became the tapestry she wove throughout her life. She has six children, 31 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and one great-great!

Carol raised her children with a great love of family, church, music, and the outdoors. As a family, they worked, sang, camped, hunted, worshiped, and celebrated. Large extended family gatherings were highlights of their lives every month. Their life took a tragic turn in 1968, when her sweetheart was killed while fighting a forest fire up the canyon near their home. She finished raising their children, sending all four boys on missions, while working at JC Penney to support the family.

In 1977, Carol married Reed Carson, another outdoor enthusiast, to share her life.  They were married until 2002, when Reed passed away. Since that time, Carol has lived near and with her family in Centerville and Bountiful, Utah, and Amelia Island, Florida. She is survived by her seven siblings: LeGrande, Elaine, Diane, Wayne, Shirley, Antonia, and David, and her six children: Christene Mangelson, Craig Corless, James Randall, Alan Luris, Dennis Melvin, and Tae Iverson.
