Carol Ann Flitton

LAYTON a€" On October 24, 2012, our sweet mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, and sister, Carol Ann J. Swenson Flitton, returned home to her Heavenly Father after a valiant battle with cancer. She faced her illness with faith, courage and optimism, but in the end was more concerned for the welfare of her family and how we would get along without her.

She was born on August 24, 1933 in Ogden, Utah to Leroy E. and La Von Green Johnson. She grew up in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School and Weber State College, later attending BYU. She was sealed to Bert E. Swenson on October 16, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple. With her husband, who was a pilot in the Air Force, she lived in Texas, Arizona, and England. Tragically she was left a widow at a young age with two small children. With her exceptional faith and courage, she faced her adversity and rebuilt her life. She married Ronald C. Smith on February 14, 1962; they were later divorced. On October 17, 1972, she married Dee W. Flitton, and together they built homes in both Morgan and Layton. They served a building mission for the LDS Church in the Fiji Islands. There she was the elders'' adopted "Mom," doing washing, mending, and any motherly tasks they needed. She was loved by all those she served while in the mission field.

Mom had an unwavering faith in her Heavenly Father and served in various church callings in the Relief Society and Primary. She was an accomplished artist and oil painter and was often called upon to use her talent in her church callings. She was an avid reader, loved classic movies, scrapbooking and crocheting.

She is survived by her husband, her four children: Diane Swenson, Bert E. Swenson Jr. (Paula), Patricia Sommercorn (Michael), and Chad Flitton; five stepchildren: Lorraine, Jay, JoAnn, Mark and Matthew; 33 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and her brother Dale Johnson (Shirley).

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 29, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Layton Valley View Stake Center, 1589 E. Gentile. Friends may visit family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church prior to services. Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park.

Mom, we love you. You are more than just a Mother, you are our best friend, our "Sportin Buddy," our spiritual example and our Hero. We know that when you returned, the Lord said, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."
