Carol Lorine Gutierrez

Carol Valdez Gutierrez, 76, of Syracuse, Utah passed away Monday, April 22, 2013, at Davis Hospital and Medical Center from a brain tumor preceded by Alzheimer''s.

She was born on November 23, 1936, in La Puente, New Mexico, the daughter of Tranquilino and Rosa Valdez. Carol grew up in La Puente, New Mexico and graduated from Tierra Amarilla High School where she was a cheerleader.

She married Paul George Gutierrez, her high school sweetheart on August 25, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Park View, NM. They moved to Layton, Utah in 1958.

Paul and Carol have been devout and active members of St. Rose Catholic Church in Layton and enjoyed participating in church and Senior Citizen activities. Throughout her life she enjoyed crocheting, cooking, reading and strolling, especially on beautiful sunny days. Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. Surviving are her husband Paul of Syracuse, two sons and two daughters, Joseph Gutierrez, Layton; Wayne (Sandy) Gutierrez, Syracuse; Melissa (Rafael) Medina, Las Vegas, NV; Melinda Gutierrez, Las Vegas, NV; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are her three sisters, Cleo (Phil) Tucker, West Valley; Elsie (Arsenio) Velarde, Salt Lake City; Lucy Valdez, Murray, Utah.

She was preceded in death by parents, Tranquilino and Rosa Valdez, daughter, Janice Gutierrez Savage, and one brother, Tranquilino Jr. (Chucky) Valdez.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 South Chapel Street, Layton, Utah.

Services entrusted by the family to Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road.
