Carol Dummer Helms, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away on February 22, 2024, in Helendale, California. Born on July 16, 1936, in Ogden, Utah, to Fordham Alexander and Dorothy Eleanor Newcomb Dummer, Carol led a life marked by dedication, hard work, and love for her family and community.
Carol graduated from Ogden High School in 1954 and worked in various capacities throughout her life. During high school, she worked at the candy counter at Woolworths.
After her marriage to her sweetheart William “Bill” Helms on November 12, 1954, they moved to North Ogden where she worked at the North Ogden Canning Company. She was also a skilled seamstress at Sierra Lingerie Co. and later in life worked at the Great Harvest Bread Company, making sandwiches until her retirement in 2012. She loved serving customers and getting to know each of them personally.
Carol was a member of Elim Lutheran Church in Ogden. She enjoyed sewing and embroidery. For many years She and husband Bill enjoyed square dancing and belonged to the Jubilee Ramblers and the Quarter Promenaders square dance clubs.
In 2012 Carol was diagnosed with breast cancer and successfully overcame that difficult challenge in her life.
Carol is survived by her children, Patricia Lopez (Hector) of Helendale, California, Michael Helms (Jennifer) of Boone, North Carolina, Kathy Chadwick (Lon, Deceased) of Ogden, Utah; and her brother, Jerry Dummer of Kemmerer, Wyoming. She has 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill Helms; her son, William F. Helms; her parents, Fordham and Dorothy Dummer; and her brother, Kenneth Dummer.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Community Center at Lindquist’s Office Building, 3434 Washington Blvd.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to all who have provided care and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol's name can be made to the American Cancer Society or The Alzheimer’s Association.
