Carol Finlayson Larsen, was born in Provo, Utah on December 15, 1935 to Earl Finlayson and Chloe Pyper. She was the eldest of eight children. She graduated from this earthly experience in her 89th year on December 7, 2024.
Her alma maters are Provo High School, Brigham Young University, and Central Utah Vocational School. As a young woman, she worked as a switchboard operator for Sears, a colorist at BYU adding color to black and white photos, and later studied nursing becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse. She used these skills wherever she lived to help and serve others, including her family, neighbors, and missionaries.
In 1959, Inga, a matchmaker, lined her up with a tall handsome redhead by the name of Leonard Larsen. Within one month of meeting, they were engaged and four months later they married in the Salt Lake Temple.
Together they lived in Utah, Montana, and California, raising five children, as well as fostering multiple children throughout their lives. Every summer the family would return to Utah to help her father with his carnival hobby. She helped make candy apples, caramel apples, cotton candy, popcorn, snow cones, and sold ride tickets. Leonard and the children participated in running rides, games, and making the goodies too.
Carol was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many church callings, which included 12+ years in the Special Needs Mutual in Davis County alongside her husband. She deeply loved those she served. These were memorable years for Carol and Leonard.
She was also a skilled homemaker. Some of her talents included being a baker, a seamstress who also taught sewing courses, a home storage specialist, a wedding cake designer, she was skilled in a multitude of handicrafts, painting, and became very competent in Brazilian Embroidery. Many have been recipients of her knitted dishcloths with a scrubby corner and crocheted scrubbers.
Carol is survived by her three daughters, Joyce Little, Anne Clark, and Linda Bascom, 26 grandchildren, 29+ great grandchildren, her brothers Richard, Keith, Merrill, Clair, and Dan. She was preceded in death by her husband, her sons Terry and Raymond, her parents, sister Coleen, and brother Barton.
We express our sincerest appreciation to the hospice team who lovingly, tenderly, and attentively helped us care for our mother during her final weeks. We thank Sara, Melanie, Amber, and Kortney, among others who served us and our needs during this time.
“Death, though bitter to observe, is not the end, but is, rather,
only another graduation from which we go on to a better life.”
Gordon B. Hinckley
