Carol Poliakoff
March 28, 1933 ~ June 29, 2019
Carol May Hook Dayley Poliakoff passed from her earthly existence peacefully surrounded by her children at the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home on June 29, 2019 at the age of 86. She was born to Blenda May and Ray A. Hook on March 28, 1933 in Seattle, Washington.
Carol was an avid reader and loved gardening, oil painting, home decorating, and sewing. She not only created her own home accessories but also made a living as a self-employed seamstress for local brides. Her skills and attention to detail were unmatched.
Carol served for a short time in the United States Air Force before she became pregnant and received an honorable discharge. In the late 1960's while raising four children as a single mom, she traveled to Vietnam as a civil servant on a cargo transport plane for a temporary duty assignment to educate her contemporaries. She was close enough to the battle zone to hear gunfire and bombing in the distance. It stands out as one of the bravest decisions she made as a young mother.
Carol is remembered with love by three daughters, Susan (Ron) Dimattia, Dorre (James) Maki, JoAnn (Marc) Lachance; and one son, James (Penny) Dayley; ten grandchildren, Chantel Morse, Jake (Brittany), Noelle (Tycen PoVey), Shane, Chelsea (Chris Bodily) Maki, Gavin Korab, Alyssa (Brock Andersen), Kaylee (Josh Brooks), Felisha Watson (Bryan Kasravi, and Julia Lachance; seven great-grandchildren, Kroften Morse, Kohen, Finn, Sloan, Afton Maki, Hayes and Link PoVey; as well as her dear friend, Trish Monjaraz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Blenda May and Ray A. Hook; her sisters, Dottie and Sally; and her former husbands, Robert Poliakoff, and Douglas Dayley.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff and aides at the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home and Bristol Hospice for the compassionate care and attention they gave to (Miss) Carol.
Private family services will be held where military honors will be accorded. Services entrusted to Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
