In the early morning hours of July 9, 2024, our beautiful mother passed peacefully from our arms into the arms of her loved ones in Heaven. Carol Janice Nelson Reopelle was born August 15, 1933, one of seven children to Adolph and Mayme Nelson of Sharon, North Dakota. Carol grew up on a hardworking family farm with a deep faith in her Father in Heaven. After graduating from Sharon High School and attending college, Carol moved to Tacoma, Washington, where she worked at a bank. It was here she met a handsome young airman, Maurice Rene Reopelle, from Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Shortly thereafter, they married on June 23, 1956, and had three children.
With Dad being stationed at various air bases around the world, Mom and Dad enjoyed a life of travel. As kids, we were blessed with a fun-loving childhood with amazing parents teaching us by example. Dad eventually retired at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, and Mom and Dad later moved to Mesa, Arizona, and then back to Ogden to live out their sunset years.
Mom never liked to drive but when Dad had to go to a care center, Mom showed us her strength, devotion and determination and drove faithfully to visit her husband several times every week for years until Dad’s passing in December of 2018. Mom showed us her quiet inner strength through her strong faith in God, knowing she would see her husband again one day.
Carol was a member of the Ascension Lutheran Church in Harrisville and when she could no longer attend church, she would faithfully watch services on Facebook.
Mom is survived by her three children, Kim (John) Stevens of Peterson, Utah; Kristi (Mike) Turner of Monroe, Utah; and Tim (Bridget) Reopelle of North Ogden, Utah. She is also survived by her siblings, Annette (Bill) Oxton, Donna Smith, and Leroy (Pat) Nelson; sisters-in-law, Margo (Dennis) Heaney, Fran Schroeder, Anne Reopelle, Joanne Nelson, and Dona Nelson; and by 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years; her parents; three brothers, Norman, Ardean and James Nelson; and one grandson, Randy Stevens. We can only imagine the joyful reunion Mom is having.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden, Utah.
