Carol Torbensen

October 1, 1944 — August 19, 2023

Carol Torbensen, age 78, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 19, 2023, at home in Kaysville, Utah.

She was born October 1, 1944, in Heber, Utah, to Rex and Florine Whiting, and was the oldest child of three siblings, two sisters and a brother.  Carol grew up vibrant, enthusiastic, and excited about life.  She completed her formal education at Utah State University where she graduated in Home Economics.  She embraced and developed these skills to bless and serve others throughout her entire life.

As a skiing instructor at a nearby resort, she met her sweetheart of 55 years, Jerry L. Torbensen.  They were later sealed together in the Logan, Utah Temple.  Soon after this, their life’s journey began with the Air Force as Jerry became an Air Force officer and pilot, which took them to many locations around the globe.  During this time Carol got to do what she loved most, caring for and raising five wonderful children.  Her love for life and adventure led to countless lifelong relationships and friends.

Carol was always excited about learning and sharing new things.  Enthusiasm, hard work, and service to others were her trademarks.  She used current experiences to learn and grow and then set out to help others with newly gained wisdom.  Early on, she charged directly into the issue of mental illness, voraciously seeking to learn, understand, accept, and then teach others about this important topic.  She is known and loved for the many passions she shared with us, including early childhood education, breast cancer research, beautiful organ music, knitting, quilting, cross-stitching, and crafting with her grandkids.

She is survived by husband Jerry, children Jason (Robyn) Torbensen, Andrea (Jared) Gunnerson, Kristin Torbensen, Dustin (Marianne) Torbensen, Bethany Torbensen, and 14 grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by Rex and Florine Whiting, and granddaughter Angela Torbensen.

A viewing will be held at the 10th Ward church building located at 1039 Crestwood Rd, Kaysville on Thursday, Aug 24th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and on Friday, Aug 25th, 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with funeral service to follow immediately.
