Carole T. Van De Graaff July 14, 1934 a" March 26, 2009
FARR WEST - Carole T. Van De Graaff, 74, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 26, 2009 at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden with her family present.
Born in Ogden, Utah on July 14, 1934, she was the first child of George and Alta Stallings Turnquist. She graduated from Ogden High School and subsequently the University of Utah with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught for 22 years in the Granite School District at East Millcreek Elementary School. She was active in the Association for Childhood Education International (ACE) and served as State President of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international organization of women educators dedicated to educational excellence, altruism and world understanding.
Carole married Darwin Van De Graaff, whom she had known since fourth grade, and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Upon Darwin''s transfer to Denver, Carole returned to school, earning a masters degree in Information Management from the University of Denver. After graduation, she served as teacher and librarian for the Hillel Academy of Denver. A few years later, she and Darwin moved to Sante Fe, New Mexico. There, she served as research librarian for 10 years with the law firm of Montgomery & Andrews.
Due to a genetic kidney disease, Carole was a recipient of a kidney transplant in 1995 and was a strong advocate of organ donor programs. She enjoyed doing hand work and gardening. She was an avid reader and a patron of the performing arts.
She is survived by her husband, son Wayne (Dr. Jessica Tan) and granddaughter MeiXia, Ottawa, Canada; brother Mike (Lynn) Turnquist, Orlando, FL; and sister Christine (Gary) White, Little Rock, AR.
Per Carole''s request, formal memorial services will not be held. However, appropriate religious convictions will be observed.
