Caroline Lucienne Henrichsen Tolton, 85, passed away peacefully Saturday April 12, 2008 at her daughter''s home in Tucson, Arizona, surrounded by family.
She was born November 12, 1922, in Holladay, Utah, the daughter of Bertha Rose Kohler and Allen Vernon Henrichsen. She grew up on the family farm in Holladay and was a source of never ending giggling, delight and admiration to her nine siblings, she was the second oldest of 10 children. She graduated from Granite High School in 1940. She attended the University of Utah where she was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority, graduating with a degree in Home Economics in 1945.
She took a year off of college to work at Remington Arms making bullets to help support the WWII war effort.
She married the love of her life, Justin Carlisle Tolton, in March of 1946 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death, November 3, 2001.
Caroline was a school teacher in Ogden City Schools for over 25 years. She spent most of her career teaching Home Economics and English at Mound Fort Middle School in Ogden. She also taught at Highland Junior High, Ben Lomond High and other local schools. She loved teaching and received numerous awards for her outstanding efforts. She took every opportunity to further the education of her students and to help them attain a love of learning. She was nominated to and very active in Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary organization of women educators. She served as the Ogden chapter president twice. She was nominated and served as a delegate on The Women''s State Legislative Council of Utah for over a decade. She traveled the world believing that it would make her a better educator. She was an early believer in physical fitness, joining the Deseret Gym (now Gold''s Gym) in 1967 where she exercised regularly. She was an avid bridge player and spent many hours playing at the Golden Hours Senior Center in Ogden. She and Justin were active members of the LDS church. They gained peace from the promise of eternal life and appreciated the friendships, support and comfort gained through their membership. She served in several different positions including Sunday school, Primary, Relief Society and Young Women.
Caroline was a loving mother and grandmother. She spent endless hours ensuring that her children and grandchildren were nurtured, educated and bragged about. She heavily encouraged her children to participate in activities and took an active role with them. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are six children, Justin Craig (Dallas) Tolton, Los Angeles, CA; Tonie Renee (Arnie) Jacobsen, Tucson, AZ; Gary Allen Tolton, Red Lyon, PA; Richard Lynn (Debbie) Tolton, Tucson, AZ; Robert John (Debbie) Tolton, Layton, UT; Nancee Jo (Walt) Smith, Seattle, WA; 20 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; Six siblings, Janis Diana Nicholes, Davis, CA; Leo Soren Henrichsen, Seattle, WA; Leon Jacob Henrichsen, Salt Lake City, UT; Don Karl Peter Henrichsen, Waldorf, MD; Roy Eldon Henrichsen, Spanish Fork, UT; Ray Alden Henrichsen, Burton, OH. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marilyn Tolton Henrichsen, Salt Lake City, UT, to whom she was very close. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Allen Waldo Henrichsen, Edwin Ernest Henrichsen and one sister, Bertha Rosalie Henrichsen.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26th at 11a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:45 to10:45 a.m.
Interment at Lindquist Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road.
