Carolyn McFarland Arave passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2013 surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the age of 86. It was best said by one of her grandchildren, "I hope if I live to 86 I can say I lived my life as well as grandma."
Carolyn was born February 27, 1927 in West Weber to Thomas and Irene Weatherston McFarland and lived her entire life in Ogden and surrounding Weber County. She graduated from Weber High School Class of 1944.
She married Joseph H. Arave in August 1946. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe; daughter Connie; her parents; and four brothers, Glen, Vern, Dee, and Virgil McFarland. Carolyn was a living example of the definition of mother and sister. She was an example to all, shehad unmeasured faith, put others first, sacrificed always to help others and loved without restraint. Her family was blessed beyond their understanding by her faith, love, example, and service. Her friends and acquaintances were blessed by the same kindness and love she blessed her family with. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and through the love, fellowship, and example of ward members and friends, Carolyn and Joe were sealed in the Logan Temple. She has anticipated with joy the reunion with her eternal partner, Joe, daughter Connie, family and friends during the past few months. Carolyn served wherever asked in the church. She enjoyed working in the Young Women''s organization. Carolyn also had the opportunity of serving a mission with her husband, Joe in Tucson, Arizona which was a highlight of their retirement years. During retirement they enjoyed traveling with a group of friends in their fifth-wheel trailers. They shared fun and spiritual moments together as a group, but the highlight for Carolyn was the time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As she was getting close to the end of her mortal life and mostly non-responsive, she received calls and visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She suddenly had an alertness and sparkle of grandma as she told them of her love.
Sometimes in life you can''t do all that you would like. You have to rely on others to do things for you. For the past two and a half years Carolyn has been loved and served by the owners and staff at Stoney Brooke Assisted Living Center. They have loved and cared for her as family. Certainly, they have helped make her last few years special. Invision Home Health Care and Hospice have also been a big part of her life the past few months. Thank you!!
Mom (Grandma), we love you. We hope our lives may reflect the example of courage, love, sacrifice, and kindness you have left us with.
