Carolyn Deeben Greathouse
Our quiet, unassuming mother, Carolyn Deeben Greathouse passed away on July 31, 2021 in Layton, Utah. Carolyn was born on August 21, 1940 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Clarence and Irene Deeben. She was the second child and had three loving brothers. Carolyn grew up in Springville, Utah and graduated from Springville High in 1958. She continued her education at Stevens-Henager Business School.
She worked as a civil employee at Hill Air Force Base for ten years. Later in life she worked as a paraeducator for Davis County School District for about 15 years before retirement. On February 8, 1968, she went on a blind date with Don Earl Greathouse, who would become her eternal sweetheart just over a year later on Feb. 14, 1969. They were blessed with five children.
Family was very important to Carolyn and she was very proud of all her children and grandchildren. She was a great homemaker, excellent cook, accomplished seamstress, and master knitter. She shared her talents with those she knew, knitting many baby blankets and sweaters for those she loved, and sewing many of her children's clothes when they were young. Carolyn had a big heart and always made you feel like you were home when you visited her.
She served in many Relief Society and Primary callings in the LDS Church over the years. She loved serving as a worker in the Ogden temple for 14 years with her husband Don. She and Don also faithfully served a mission to the Salt Lake Family History Library.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Don Greathouse; parents, Clarence & Irene Deeben; brother, Bruce Deeben; and young daughter, Yvonne Greathouse. She is survived by four children, Cherlyn (RanDee) Howard, Priest River, Idaho; David Earl (Alison) Greathouse, Taylorsville, Utah; Elizabeth (David) Berninger, Covington, Washington; and Susan (Les) Aycock, Fresno, California; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Jay Deeben and Glen Deeben, and numerous nieces and nephews.
