Cary Peterson was born on October 23, 1969, to loving parents Larry Wayne Peterson and Judy Ellsworth in Provo, Utah. The family moved to the cities of Davis, Modesto, and Riverbank, California, where he had a happy childhood. He was an inquisitive little boy who would tinker with things, taking them apart to figure out how they worked. He was active in his LDS ward and the Boy Scouts program, earning his Eagle Scout Award. The family later moved to Newark, Delaware, and from there, Cary was called to serve an LDS mission in Ogden, Utah. During his mission, he developed a deep love and appreciation for the people of Utah and the beauty of the Utah mountains, especially the Uintas.
Cary married Allison Hamblin in 1999, and together, they were blessed with three wonderful children: Madison Nicole Peterson, Kate Isabel Peterson, and Jared Wayne Peterson. Their second child, Ian Wayne Peterson, was sadly stillborn, a loss deeply felt. Though their marriage ended in 2017, Cary cherished these early family years together, raising his children.
On September 20, 2018, Cary married Angela Leigh Putnam in Murray, Utah. They joyfully and successfully blended their families, bringing together his three children and Angela's daughter, Ella Kate Wellman. Cary felt loved and secure in his marriage with Angela and developed a fatherly love for Ella as much as his other children.
Cary’s infectious enthusiasm and exuberance brought light and magic to everyone around him. The world became his oyster, and everything he touched was gold. He was an unstoppable force that could do absolutely anything. He had a remarkable ability to tackle any challenge, whether or not he had prior experience, and his creative talents flourished across various hobbies. Cary was entrepreneurial; he always dreamed of new ways to turn his interests into ventures. Over the years, he engaged in wedding photography, freelance website design, AI-generated artwork, cultivating his own hybridized daylilies, 101 varieties, electric mini-bike start-up, and rock tumbling—always having a project. Professionally, Cary dedicated the last couple of decades to creative endeavors, including working to digitally recreate many of Arnold Friberg’s original artworks for canvas print sales.
Cary was a man of deep faith, holding a prayer in his heart for his country, family and kinsmen. He is survived by his parents, Larry and Judy Peterson; his adoring wife, Angela; his children, Madison, Kate, Jared, and Ella; brother Tony (Kris) Peterson; sister Lisa (Colin) Gunn; and foster brother Matthew (Kristen) Wells and sister Melinda Dryden. His brother Timothy Peterson and his son Ian Wayne Peterson preceded him in death.
