Caryl J. Ashcroft

PLEASANT VIEW a€" Caryl Jacobs Ashcroft, beloved wife, mother, sister and friend died Saturday, January 29, 2011 at her home.

She was born November 13, 1935 in Oakland, California, the first child of Clarence and Dorothy Openshaw Jacobs.

With the untimely death of both parents, Caryl being the oldest of three children in her family, gathered her sister Gaye and brother Larry to her, and brought them to Provo, Utah where she was attending Brigham Young University. With sheer determination, the three of them established a sweet home life in Provo. She loved Gaye and Larry fiercely, and looked after their needs untiringly. She never complained, and even through very difficult times, has always smiled through her tears. Her optimism expressed itself in everything she did.

She married her eternal companion, Rulon B. Ashcroft, on September 16, 1961 in the Manti LDS Temple.

As a fulltime mother and homemaker, Caryl always felt fulfilled with her husband, children, grandchildren and her home. Each family member had a special place in her heart. She recognized each with her genuine love as special events occurred, always directing her love to "the one". She enjoyed homemaking, gardening, interior design and exercising.

She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved the church with all her heart and had absolute faith and trust in the Lord. Her love was true and deep, her will strong, yet loyal and true. She enjoyed each assignment in the church, serving as Relief Society President, Primary President, YWMIA President and various assignments in the auxiliary organizations. She served two missions: a Stake Mission and inner Ogden City Mission.

Caryl truly loved her neighbors and friends, always sincerely interested in their lives. She went out of her way to help others, without wanting praise or attention given to her. All those who knew her, loved and deeply respected her.

She is survived by her dear husband Rulon, her four dear daughters, Michele Dean, North Ogden; Sherri (Marty) Henrie, Centerville; Coleen Ashcroft, Fruit Heights; Julieanne (Zach) Hartmann, North Ogden; and her 10 cherished grandchildren, Jenessa, Derek and his fiancAC. Shay, Brendan, Lauren, Paige, Brandon, Brooke, Abby, Jacob; her sister and brother-in-law, Gaye and Ken Reed; and sister-in-law, Patti Jacobs.

Caryl was preceded in death by her dear parents and her brother Larry Jacobs.

The family wishes to express deep appreciation to loved ones, friends, neighbors, Ward members, medical and pharmacy personnel, and all who have been so generous in any way during Caryl''s time of extremity. Special thanks go out to the wonderful caregivers of Intermountain Hospice who have so magnificently seen to her comfort and every need during this past year.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 5th at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant View 8th Ward Chapel, 250 W. Elberta Dr., with Bishop Kenneth Albrechtsen officiating.
