Catherine Longstroth

Catherine Ann Longstroth, 67, passed away July 9, 2015 after living a life of joy and service to others.  She was always ready with a smile and a listening ear.  She embodied her faith and strengthened others, and loved educating, the outdoors, and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She faced ovarian cancer with courage and grace.

Cathy dedicated her career to special education: first, as a teacher of children with significant cognitive disabilities at Jordan Valley School, then, as a special education teacher at schools in Jordan and Murray Districts.  She was an Autism Teacher Mentor for the Utah Personnel Development Center for 8 years where she provided training and support services to educators of students with disabilities and medically fragile conditions statewide.

Cathy is preceded in death by her father and a sister.  She is survived by her mother; seven siblings; her sweetheart and husband of 46 years, Bruce; six children and ten grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 14 at the meetinghouse at 1970 Visconti Drive in Sandy. A celebration of Cathy’s life will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. that evening at the same location.  Funeral services entrusted to Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to a nonprofit serving those on the autism spectrum and their families, such as the Autism Council of Utah.
