Catherine Sessions

Catherine Johnson Sessions of Layton, Utah, died in her home on Wednesday, April 20th, 2016. She was 70 years old.  Born January 15, 1946 to Forest and Alice Whitesides Johnson, Catherine attended Layton Elementary School, Central Davis Junior High School, and Davis High School, where she graduated in 1964.  A life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints, Catherine was married in the Salt Lake Temple in July of 1965 to Leslie Elmer Sessions, whom she met while attending Utah State University in Logan, Utah.  They were later divorced.

Catherine was a great lover of music (especially early and classic rock and roll), a passion which she passed on to her four children.  The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Three Dog Night, and Bread could often be heard playing day and night in Catherine’s home.  She was also an amazing cook and delighted in making each child a special birthday meal of their choosing each year.  Spaghetti, lasagna, homemade pizza, and tacos were often on the menu. However, it was Catherine’s sense of humor which really drew people to her.  Quick-witted and adept at weaving humor into everyday stories, she kept friends and family smiling morning, noon, and night.  She was especially fond of puns, which always tickled her to no end. Another of Catherine’s loves was reading, and there was hardly a night or weekend that wouldn’t find Catherine working her way through the latest offering from Stephen King, Dean Koontz, or any of a hundred other writers she enjoyed.

But what Catherine valued most in life was spending time with her family and friends. She delighted in her children and grandchildren, and always had time to read them stories, hear about their days, or fix them a meal.

Catherine is survived by her four children: Christopher J Sessions (Becky), Tyler J Sessions (Jennifer), Sam Brady Sessions, and Suzanne (Frank) Mathews; 11 grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Linda (James) Duncan and two nephews: Jason (Kimberlee) Johnson and Troy Johnson.

The family would like to thank the many friends, neighbors, ward members, and care-givers who devoted so much of their time to visiting with Catherine and helping make her finals years as comfortable as possible. The family would especially like to thank Jim and Nelda Beddes for their kindness, friendship, and support.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary 400 No. Main St.  Friends may visit family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
