Cecil L. Jorgensen
PLEASANT VIEW a" Dr. Cecil (Cec) L. Jorgensen, 85, much loved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away quietly at his home on Saturday, November 27, 2010.
Cec was born on November 16, 1925, in Hyrum, Utah, to Nicholi and Mary Barnes Jorgensen.
On June 10, 1947, he married LaRae Smith in the Logan LDS Temple.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in several capacities including missionary work and temple ordinance work.
During World War II he was a Captain with the U.S. Army Air Corp serving as fighter pilot.
Cec received his bachelors, masters, and doctorial degrees from Utah State University. He was a secondary teacher for 17 years in Cache Valley, then taught English at Weber State University for 23 years before retiring.
He was active in community affairs serving as Lions Club President, PTA President and he served in the Utah State Legislature. For 42 years, he was a member of the Men of Song. He also volunteered at the Hill Air Force Base Museum for many years. He enjoyed music, reading, golfing and flying.
Cec is survived by his wife and best friend of 63 years, LaRae, one son, Nick (Kim) Jorgensen, St. George; two daughters, Marcea (Tom) Lindgren, New York; Nansi (John) Whitaker, Roy; and daughter-in-law, Kris Jorgensen, Harrisville. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Niki (Flavio) Martins, Cory (Marie-Anne Senecal) Jorgensen, Ryan Walton, Brent (Maria) Hamilton, Craig Jorgensen, Ted (Roxy) Jorgensen, Jon (Courtney Winton) Jorgensen, Brandon (Heather) Smith and Kelsi (Ryan Schmertz); and nine great-grandchildren.
His parents, two brothers, one sister and his son, Alan, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd.
Family will greet friends at the mortuary on Saturday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Hyrum Cemetery at approximately 3 p.m. where Military Honors will be accorded.
