Charl Paul Andersen

October 25, 1936 ~ June 22, 2018

Charl Paul Andersen passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving wife and children on June 22, 2018.

He was born on October 25, 1936 to Elizabeth (Lizzie) Leona Clark and Charl Jens Andersen in Lehi, Utah.

C. Paul Andersen was a playwright, director, and producer. He founded the Pioneer Courthouse Players Repertory Theatre Company and directed the Old Barn Theatre in Kanab, Utah. He consulted with other southern Utah communities in founding summer theater programs. He also served as a member of the board of directors of the Dixie Center.

He held a PhD in theatre production and dramatic literature from Brigham Young University. He taught at various Utah high schools and BYU Hawaii. He was Director of Theatre and Dean of Fine and Performing Arts at Dixie State College. He was honored with a citation from Utah Governor Michael O. Leavitt for his lifelong contributions to theater and the arts in Utah.

He is also the author of two novels: Voice in the Night and Final Act.

Paul faithfully fulfilled many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a deep love for the Savior and His teachings.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen Ramsay Andersen; children, Jill (Kenny) Nielsen, Wendy (Ray) Reyhani, and Paul R. (Kristi) Andersen; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and one niece, Marty (Gary) Price. He is preceded in death by both his parents; sister, Mildred Leona Thornton; brother, Carl Clark Andersen; and his daughter, Lisa Andersen Lee.

His wife, children, niece, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will remember him for his unwavering faith, his love for all people, his silly jokes, made up songs, and stories from his Dixie days. He loved unconditionally, he prayed with fervor, he comforted and advised with compassion, and he laughed with his whole soul.
