Charlene Mary Moore Petersen
On the first day of a beautiful new year, our much loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend Charlene Mary Moore Petersen, 75, slipped peacefully away to join her father and mother, brother Don Moore, and grand-daughter Kiersten. She had been suffering from a congestive heart condition for the past four months but had been granted the opportunity of gathering her entire family and their spouses for a Christmas dinner at her home. She was so pleased to sit at the head of the table in joyful togetherness with her family that she loved so much.
Charlene''s greatest trait was her steadfast devotion to her family, her church, and her friends from whom she gained great comfort and satisfaction. She had spent the past ten years diligently serving a mission alongside her husband for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at Church Headquarters in the Curriculum and Magazine Department, where her organizational and typing skills were much appreciated.
She was born to Franklin and Leara Moore in Ogden, Utah on March 22, 1932. She grew up loving the hill where she lived on Gramercy Avenue. She enjoyed winter sledding, summers in the orchards and strawberry patches, and playing with her cousins and friends. She graduated from Ogden High School and then attended Weber College, excelling in all her studies. After college, she was employed at First Security Bank as a secretarial assistant in the Mortgage Department.
She joined in eternal marriage on May 7, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple to Ronald Leroy Petersen by Elder Harold B. Lee, then an apostle. From this time forward her primary concern in life was her family where she spent, what was to her, the most important part of her life--raising the seven children she and Ron brought in the world.
Charlene wanted her home to be a place of peace and order where she could focus on rearing her children, helping them learn to work, teaching them to laugh-she could be a great tease, showing them how to love the Lord, and instilling within them the principles of success. She was always happiest when surrounded by her family and always encouraged them in their pursuits. When her children were all in school she returned to work, first part-time and later full time as secretary to the principal at Layton High School, a position she held for 19 years.
As grandchildren came along, she used much of her spare time in sewing beautiful dresses, creating finely stitched quilts, and crocheting hundreds of her special brand of pot holders for her children and grandchildren. She also loved scrapbooking, cooking and planning family gatherings, and readinga"especially mysteries.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband in their retirement years to many places in the States as well as the British Isles, Denmark and Canada where they made many friends along the way. She served faithfully in numerous ward and stake positions for the LDS Church and especially enjoyed teaching children in the Primary and Sunday School, as well as her work in the Relief Society where she served as teacher and counselor to the President.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, seven children: David (Raylene), DeAnn (David) Hoggan, Scott (Marilyn), Mark (Becky), Doug (Brenda), RenAC.e (Steve) Barker, and Rusty (Rebecca), 27 grandchildren, and ten great grand-children. She is survived by a dear sister, Myrtle (Don) Jensen.
