Charles Herbert Baker

Our loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Charles Herbert Baker, 93, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2013. He was born on July 12, 1920 in Beloit, Wisconsin, the son of Raymond and Bertha Mabel Harper Baker.

He survived the "Great Depression" traveling with his mother. They originated in the mid-western U.S. and relocated to the West Coast and lived in Eureka, California; LeGrande, Oregon; Ogden, and Oakley, Utah.

Charles served in the military during World War II and received medals of valor. He was wounded at the Battle of Leyte in the Philippines. He was the local and state Commander for the Disabled American Veterans. Charles also volunteered countless hours at the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City. He participated in numerous Memorial services in honor of Veterans on Memorial and Veterans Day.

He married the love of his life, Margurite Stone on August 2, 1945 in Salt Lake City.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Charles loved outdoor activities including hiking, hunting, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed numerous activities with his large family. Dad loved to play the harmonica and would entertain at every possible opportunity. Dad you are our hero!

Charles is survived by his sons, Clyde (Chris) Baker, Cedar Park, TX and Bruce (Brenda) Baker, Fruit Heights, UT; daughters, Claudia Baker, Kaysville, UT; Bonnie (Jerry) Torres, Francis, UT; and Leslie (Bryan) Salmans, Desert Hot Springs, CA; 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margurite Stone Baker.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd., Ogden.
