LAYTON – Charles F. Black was tragically taken the morning of July, 6 2013. He was born April 7, 1938 in Bountiful, UT to Charles and Marrietta Olsen Black. On November 6, 1968 Charlie married the love of his life Marta McClure in Bountiful, UT. Charlie loved his wife of 44 years and his family more than anything. He enjoyed spending all of his free time with them, camping, playing ball, shooting, and telling stories. Charlie graduated from Davis High in 1956 he served 4 years in the US Army and then graduated from Utah State University in 1964 with a degree in Agricultural Science. From there, he went on to serve and do many great things. He worked at Condies Foods with his dad and two brothers. He was the owner and master mind behind Black Island Farms. He was passionate about preserving the farming community and passing down his knowledge to future generations. He was known as “King of the Bottomlands”. Over the years he employed hundreds of young men teaching them the value of hard work and honesty. He served for 20 years on the Weber Basin Board of Directors, the Davis Hospital Board, Davis County Planning Commission, Layton Canal Company and served in the National Onion Association and Westminster Presbyterian Church. He will always be known as a positive, fair, generous, and truly caring man. Charlie will greatly be missed by everyone who ever had the pleasure of coming in contact with him. He was survived by his loving wife, and their two children; Richard Call (Joni) and Dorathy Law (Brandon). Also surviving are his grandchildren; Robert Call (Carli), Tilar Law (Shelby) McCall Law, Talon Law, and Preslie Law, great grandchildren; Lily Call and Julia Call, and two brothers; Gary Black (Karen) and Bruce Black (Nta). Preceded in death by his parents and grandson Ryan Call. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton. Friends may visit with family Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to any America First Credit Union under the name of Charles Black, any funds will be distributed amongst Charlie’s favorite charities at a later date.
