Charles Raymond Criger, Sr.

Charles “Chuck” Raymond Criger, Sr., dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and respected veteran, passed away on December 18, 2024, at Ogden Regional Hospital in Ogden, Utah. Born on August 15, 1945, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Alvie and Agnes Hackler Criger, he lived a life filled with service, family, and country.

Chuck's passion for service began early in life. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1966, where he served at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington, and aboard the USS Kitty Hawk off the coast of Vietnam. His honorable service did not end there; following his discharge, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served until his retirement at Hill Air Force Base in 1986. As an aircraft mechanic, Chuck took pride in ensuring that planes were ready for combat. His time included multiple stateside locations and an overseas deployment to Ubon, Thailand during the Vietnam War, and Taegu, Korea, further showcasing his dedication to his country.

In his civilian life, he was a bus driver for U.T.A., demonstrating his commitment to serving his community after his military career. Chuck earned his high school diploma from the Blackwell School System, years after obtaining an Associate of Science degree from Weber State University in 1989.

Outside of his professional life, Chuck enjoyed many hobbies and interests including birdwatching and traveling with his wife and spending quality time with his nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed military history and genealogical research.

One of Chuck's greatest joys was his marriage to Ruth in 1981, after returning home from a year's deployment in Korea. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; his son, Charles R. (Rechelle) Criger, Jr., Lawton, OK; and his daughter, Amanda (Jarod) Tanner, Syracuse, UT. He leaves behind nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who will carry his legacy forward. He is also survived by three sisters, Sharon Earline Marcum, Cushing, OK, Linda Joyce (Bill) Marney, North Carolina, and Diana Kay (David) Hall, who will remember him fondly.

Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Alvie Criger; his mother, Agnes Louise Hackler; his brother, Alvie “Sonny” Criger; and his sister, Juanita Louise Burke.

Visitation services to honor Chuck will be held on December 22, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on December 23, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. at Lindquist's Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South in Roy, Utah. The funeral service will take place on December 23, 2024, starting at 11 AM. at the mortuary.

Chuck will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his work. His spirit and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
