Charles Della Lucia

July 18, 1933 ~ March 16, 2018

West Haven--- Charles “Chuck” Della Lucia passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, March 16, 2018.

He was born July 18, 1933 in his family home in Wilson, UT to Elizabeth Cappozzo and Lodovico Della Lucia. He grew up in the Wilson area helping on the family farm.

Chuck worked at Hill Air Force Base on the flight line, working on aircrafts. In 1951 he enlisted in the Navy and served for four years on the USS Hitchiti, home base being Oahu, HI. He then returned to HAFB where he worked for 36 years.

He met Carolyn DePedro in 1956 and dated for six months. The two ran away together and married on May 3, 1957 in Evanston, WY. They lived in West Weber and Ogden for a short time and settled in their final home in Wilson, now West Haven in 1966.

Chuck built most of the home with his own hands. He and Carolyn instilled the value of hard work throughout the years, through example, how to farm, maintain a home, rebuild and restore cars and farm equipment, and building everything from large structures to small sculptures.

Chuck took on many hobbies throughout his life, including making creations out of horseshoes and repurposed farm equipment. He was truly a jack of all trades, with a seemingly endless knowledge, ability, and desire to work. His time spent teaching those lucky enough to listen will echo through his posterity in every project and venture they pursue.

His dedication as a patriarch to his family was exemplified in 2006 at age 73 he chose to return to high school and earn his diploma, showing his family and those in his class, nothing is beyond the reach of determination.

Chuck leaves a lasting impression through the memories he created camping, traveling, and taking long motorcycle trips with his beloved Carolyn. The two spent years nurturing their relationship and experiencing the country, visiting his various navy reunions. He enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at barbeques, get-togethers, and whenever opportunities arose. He created a home in which those he loved could seek refuge and will be missed with every fleeting reminder he has left behind.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; children: Michael (Lisa) Della Lucia; Kevin Della Lucia; Guy (Janette) Della Lucia; Ann Della Lucia; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his five siblings.
