Charles H. “Chuck” Dickey
Charles H. "Chuck" Dickey, 77, passed away at his home in Anchorage, Alaska, on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 of stomach cancer.
The youngest of seven children, Chuck was born in North Dakota near the Montana border. He moved to Alaska on his own in 1946 at the age of 15. He eventually made his career with Allstate Insurance, retiring in 1994. During his 60-plus years in Alaska he married, raised a family, earned his pilot's license and owned several small planes, bought a boat and commercial fished for salmon, built his own home from the ground up, ran for state office, and served in many positions in the LDS Church, including bishop, scout master, and member of the stake presidency. He and his beloved wife of 56 years, Marie, served an 18-month mission in England, then enjoyed their retirement years as snowbirds, spending winters in Sun Lakes, Arizona. He lived his life as an example of service, charity, commitment, competence, humor, and unfailing love. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife Marie, and children and their spouses Allan and Anna Whitby of Kaysville, Jim and Prakah Dickey of Tunis, Tunisia, Becky and Terry Buzzell of Anchorage, Chris Dickey of Anchorage, and Katrina and Brian Cain of Anchorage, as well as 15 granchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 4 sisters. He is preceded in death by his eldest son Charles Dickey Jr. and his wife Patricia, and grandson David Whitby.
Funeral services in Utah will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the LDS Fairfield Chapel, 1085 North 50 East, Kaysville. Friends and family may call Saturday from 12:30-1:30 p.m.at the church.
Interment will be at Hyrum City Cemetery on Monday, November 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m.
