Charles Edward Wilson
June 28, 1948 ~ March 20, 2015
Charles Edward Wilson was born June 28, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was the baby of Mary and Thomas Wilson. He was educated in the Philadelphia public school system, though he could have taught them a few lessons. His nickname was “Professor” and he had a love of mathematics and keeping up to date on scientific trends.
The only thing that kept him from serving his country during Vietnam was the loss of his sight. That didn’t stop him from seeing the true hearts of people nor did it make him any less of a hero. In fact, he was a super hero to two little girls, his nieces. He always joked that he didn’t have any children of his own, but helped raise two and he did so with the wisdom and protection of a father, the patience of a mother and the kindness and joy of a friend.
He also found joy in his work as an employee for the United States Postal Services.
He leaves to mourn his passing his sister, Joan Thomas; three nieces, Ida Santana, Joan Mary Thomas, Nicole Wilson; grand-nephews, Paul Carson, Carlos Santana and Eric McCombs; grand-niece, Paula Santana; two sisters-in-law, Marie Wilson, Darlene Wilson; and many great-grand nieces and nephews.
SUNSET
Sunset and evening star and one clear call for me,
And may there be no moaning of the bar when I put out to sea.
For though from out our bourne of time and place,
the flood may bear me far, I hope to meet my Pilot face to face,
when I have crossed the bar.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Lindquist's Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. The family will meet with friends Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
