Charles C. “Chuck” Farrell, 83, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 11, 2009.
He was born May 14, 1926 in Brigham City, Utah to Emily Pearl (Cheal) Farrell and Hyrum Arthur Farrell.
Chuck married Geraldine Toombs on December 18, 1947 in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on December 18, 1961. Chuck and Geraldine loved to travel from Europe to Hawaii, and many places in between.
He loved this country. He served in the US Army for 2 ½ years in World War II. He was in the 5th Infantry Division Red Diamond Devils that spearheaded for General Patton in the European Theater of War, beginning with the Battle of the Bulge.
Chuck worked at Hill Air Force Base as a Sheet Metal Manufacturing Engineer for 33 ½ years, but his true passion was the love of restoring antique cars. He learned the art of restoring antique cars after he came home from the war. He worked part time restoring cars up until he retired from Hill Air Forces Base. He was the owner and operator of Chuck’s Auto Restoration, a full service shop where he used his talents to restore antique automobiles. Due to medical circumstances, the shop closed its doors in January 2000. He restored cars for Matt Browning, many of which have won national awards. Some are displayed at the Union Station in Ogden. His love for antique cars spilled over into a love for restoring other antiques, including gas pumps, Coca-cola and Pepsi machines, slot machines, and juke boxes.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Geraldine. Their marriage was blessed with five daughters; Peggie (David) Arnold, West Point, UT; Pamala (Dennis) Day, Roy, UT; Patty Jo Farrell, Clinton, UT; Penny (Daryl) Rundberg, Laramie, WY; Angela Handrahan, Syracuse, UT; 20 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Also surviving is his brother, Warren (Vickie) Kennedy, Logan, UT.
Preceding him death were his parents, three brothers, a sister, son, granddaughter and grandson.
Chuck’s family would like to extend a special thank you to his long time friend and restoration buddy, Ole Reyersen for working along side Chuck in the shop and for all the assistance he gave Chuck and Geraldine throughout Chuck’s illness.
A heart felt thank you also goes to the Community Nursing Service Hospice and special thank you to Jenny, Amanda, and Brooke for always going the extra mile for Chuck.
